Atlanta, the capital and most populated city of state of the Georgia and is also the 9th most populous core city of the metropolitan area in the United States of America. It is a county seat of the Fulton County although the portions of city extend into DeKalb County. The population of Atlanta was over 480000 in 2006 and the metropolitan population was around 5200000 in the same year. Its population density was 3667 per square mile. According to the census of July 2006, combine statistical area population of Atlanta was 5478667. The residences of this city are popularly known as Atlantans. This city is also referred as “the capital of the New South”. Between 2000 – 2006 Atlanta’s metropolitan areas has grown by 20.5% which is the highest percentage among the top 10 metro areas. Atlanta is one of the 3 cities that hosted summer Olympic Games.

This city has an area of 132.4 square mile out of which only 0.7 square mile is water and rest is land. Its elevation ranges from 738 to 1050 feet. Atlanta receives an average of 2 inches of the snowfall annually. Its central avenue the Peachtree Street runs straight through center of the city to the Eastern Continental Divide. It divides entire Atlanta from south, proceeding towards the downtown. Rainfall on the east and south side of it goes into Atlantic Ocean while the rainwater falling on west and the north side of the divide runs into Gulf of Mexico. As for the Climate, Atlanta has humid subtropical climate with hot and humid summers along with mild winters as per the standard of United States of America.

Atlanta hosts variety of museums with subjects ranging from fine arts to history. Atlanta features world’s largest aquarium called the Georgia Aquarium which was opened for the public on 23rd November 2005. This museum features over hundred thousand specimens which includes five whales – sharks within a tank holding approximately 8000000 gallons of the water. Atlantic Station which was a part of urban renewal project located on the northwestern edge was opened in October 2005. It has many famous Clubs like Atlanta Falcons for National Football League, Atlanta Braves for Major League Baseball, Atlanta Hawks for Basketball, Atlanta Thrashers for ice hockey etc.

Atlanta ranks 3rd in the number of Fortune 500 companies - headquartered in the city. Some of the companies are Coca-Cola Company, United Parcel Service, Home Depot and the headquarters of AT&T Mobility, the largest mobile service provider in United States of America. More than 75% of the fortune 1000 companies are present in Atlanta area. So, due to the above reason there are lots of jobs in Atlanta.
